What is gasshuku menkyo?
It is an intensive driving school plan where you stay near the school and follow a fixed lesson schedule.
What is the difference between tsugaku and gasshuku?
Tsugaku means commuting from home. Gasshuku means staying near a school in another area. Read the full comparison.
How long does an AT program take?
School graduation may take around 13–16 days if lessons and tests go smoothly. It is not a guaranteed license in 14 days.
Do I receive my license at the school?
No. After graduation, take the final written exam and complete license issuance at the license center in your registered prefecture.
Can international students apply?
Many schools accept foreign students, but Japanese ability, documents, residence status, and school conditions differ.
How much Japanese do I need?
Lessons and tests are mainly in Japanese at many schools. You need enough Japanese to understand safety instructions and study materials.
What documents may be required?
A residence card, residence certificate, identification, and school-specific documents may be required. Your residence period must also be sufficient for the program.

Can foreign students use installments?
Some providers offer loans or installments, but screening may be difficult because of guarantor, credit history, income, visa status, or provider rules.
Are meals included?
Some plans include three meals, some include only selected meals, and some are self-catering.
Can dietary restrictions be supported?
Communicate allergies and food restrictions clearly. Halal-certified meals are not guaranteed unless the school confirms them.
What room types are available?
Plans may use shared rooms, single rooms, apartments, dormitories, or hotel-style accommodation.
Can I leave during the program?
The schedule is fixed, and leaving may affect lessons or graduation. Use a period when you can stay for the full program.
Can I choose a school in my prefecture?
Gasshuku commonly uses another prefecture. Some schools do not accept residents from nearby areas.
Is transport reimbursed?
Some schools offer transport support up to a limit. Routes, receipts, and maximum amounts differ.
When should I apply?
One or two months before your date is a practical minimum. Apply earlier for summer and spring holidays.
